Dear Swanson family, Our parents were good friends when your family lived in Anamosa. They played Bridge together. Our Dads passed away in the late 80s and I believe our Mothers supported one another during that tough time. We lost our Mom last year, so it is still very fresh as to the heartache of losing a parent - regardless of their age. Peace to your family - cherish the memories! Alice Poulter

I grew up on 38th Street and Mrs. Swanson was a fixture of the neighborhood. I would ride my bike down to the corner and always get a friendly wave when she was out tending to her flowers and plants. She kept an eye on kids walking to and from school. Halloween was the best because there would normally be homemade popcorn balls handed out to the neighborhood kids. As I grew up and moved away, I would run into Mrs. Swanson every once in awhile and she always had a huge smile and hug to say hello. The world needs more Mrs. Swansons! Many prayers to her family on the loss of a beautiful soul.

Hello Shelly and Kim, My mom Mary Stewart and Evy were great friends in the church community and loved each others company. Nights when the women of the church went for their monthly outings for dinner and mornings at the church on 35th St folding the programs for Sundays services were highlights for the 2 of them. Never did a time go by that Evy didn't speak with us when we were at church and always said she missed our Mom. She was a very special light with a huge heart and a true purpose. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now.

I got to know Evelyn in the last few years of her life. I was listening to Tradeo-Radio on WMT radio, and heard this elderly woman asking for help to get a newer computer. I immediately took down her phone #, and called her, and we set up a date to meet at her place. A lady friend and I showed up, and we were just amazed at how well Evelyn had decorated her little 50's style home. Even a neighbor across the street called Evelyn to make sure she was okay, with 2 strangers showing up and staying a few hours. Eventually, I got her a better computer which she really enjoyed, being able to check up on her church and family, thru email and websites. I have never known someone as dynamic as Evelyn. I was astounded at how much she was at the heart of her neighborhood, knowing and helping so many of her nearby neighbors. Even young girls would come to see her, as if Evy was their grandmother, and she'd make cookies with them. Young families new to the neighborhood would eventually find themselves at Evelyn's home, to begin a favorable friendship with her. I began to see that Evelyn was indeed a very special woman, placed here decades ago, to do the Lord's work in helping and caring for others in need. She touched the hearts and lives of so many people in her many decades on this earth, her effect upon this earth is indeed beyond calculation. I was lucky to visit her a few days before Xmas. She still was her vibrant self, a little tired, but still able to get up, get around, and enjoy her day. The corner of "C" Avenue and 38th St will be quiet now. The only change is that Evelyn has a new residence, and will still keep helping those, greeting those in heaven, who need her help.

I am a friend of Shelley and met Evelyn at several church functions with Shelle. Also, being a retiree of Alliant knew Shelley and George. My sincere condolences to the family, she was a lovely lady.

We just wanted you to know we are thinking of you and that you have our deepest sympathy. We all enjoyed Evelyn whenever she brought the car in. She was a special person. Wayne, Wayne Jr, Jill
