Evelyn Mae Bunnell, 97, of Des Moines, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Valley View Village in Des Moines. Funeral Service: 11:00am Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn was born January 11, 1921, the daughter of William and Alda (Morrow) Skeels, in Sigourney, Iowa. She was married to Homer H. Bunnell on June 21, 1943, in Union Mills, Iowa. Evelyn enjoyed gardening with her husband, Homer, playing cards with her family and friends, knitting, crocheting, and sewing with her nieces. She also had a great love for animals, especially cats. Any free time was spent competing with Homer to see who could catch the biggest fish and prove it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Although Evelyn and Homer did not have children of their own, they were instrumental in helping raise some of the nieces and nephews and lovingly opened the door to their home and hearts to any and all.
