Bob, my relationship with you started with good director and went over the years into a very personal friendship. Your professional and trustful leadership teached and inspired me for my management role in the international aviation business. I am honored that I was a part of your founded international family. Bob, you are missed, thank you for the time we shared.

The condolences below are reminders of how good Bob was to the service centers. His smile WAS contagious is an understatement. The statements by Neil Thomnson highlight what Bob was all about. He did in fact developed a generastion of leaders. Just as did Jim Aukofer. Bill Lambing Gen Av Senior field Service Engineer Retired 11-2002

I know Bob touched people all over the world with positivity, encouragement and support. I was just one here in Australia, but I remember his accepting me into my first business leadership role at Rockwell and his generosity in challenging, trusting and covering your back. Bob not only grew an organisation, he developed a generation of leaders. Bob’s family can be rightfully proud of this fine person.

You started with the Cedar Rapids service center in a Cherry Building loft - - and built an international organization respected by the customers, envied by other avionics companies, and appreciated by the hundreds of your service center employees worldwide. You were able to work between business units to accomplish what others had only dreamed about - - and proved that fixing things could be profitable. This was possible because those you worked for, and those that worked for you, knew you were as good as your word - - - and that they were an important part of your decision making. Thank you for all of the good years.

This story is only known by a very small group of senior people in Collins, but I think it highlights the type of leader Bob was. For more than 60 years Air Transport Avionics repair in Australia was the domain of a 3rd party MRO who had a monopoly on all the Airlines. In 1994 Bob was given an opportunity to change the status quo and open the market up allowing Collins to compete on a level playing field for the first time and the possibility for Collins to repair its own Air Transport equipment operated by the Australian Airlines. In the face of intense lobbying from the 3rd party MRO incumbent, Bob stood his ground and in less than twelve (12) words changed the course of Aviation history in Australia. Within 3 years the Melbourne Service Centre had doubled in size having secured several major repair contracts. For those times that Bob was not at home for his family and traveled overseas for work, I would like to say that he did great things while he was away. He will be sadly missed by all of the ex Melbourne Service Center staff in Australia.

Your loved one made a difference. Hours pass into days and time slips away, but the words we speak and the things we do touch the lives of others and live forever. The world is a better place because your loved one lived so well and shared so freely.

I worked at the Rockwell Collins Wichita Service Center during the "glory days" as I like to think of them back in the late 1970's and 1980's. Whenever Mr Bob Bartlett visited us he always had a smile and a handshake for those of us working in the Wichita facility. It was an honor to have met him, he helped inspire all of us to do greater things.
