I'm so sorry to hear of passing of Bernie. Bernie was always a delight to be around. His humor and wisdom was captivating. Recalling seeing Bernie and Barb dining at Rookies in North Liberty. They were always so friendly and inviting to join in on conversation. Last time we shared conversation over some fine food in Florida. May your many happy fond memories help ease the pain of your loss. I'm so thankful to have met and had Bernie as an acquaintance/friend in my life. The loss of Bernie is certainly a void in many lives, but the cherished memories will continue in those he left behind! Rest peacefully Bernie Cooper

Bernie was our friend in all that word means. For 56 years we have shared this lifetime. Bernie liked people and would help when he could. He was an active Mason and took great pride in all his memberships. We had common family backgrounds, and learned much from all our associations. We are better because he was here. God's blessings to all who celebrate his life. Mary Jane and Bill Jacobson

Barb & family, We were so sorry to hear of Bernie’s passing. Dick & I have so many fond memories of our fun times together in Jaycees and other events. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are already in Arizona for the winter so will not be able to come to his funeral but please know we are there in spirit.

Bernie it was my honor and privilege to work along side of you during my years at STI. Thank you for your wisdom, support, assistance, and friendship. I am assured, based on God's promises, that you are in heaven, at peace, and in awe of our wonderful Father. Kevin Kroll

Most mornings Bernie was my first customer of the day at the Marion post office and he set the tone for my day. We discussed many topics and I appreciated his wisdom and gentlemanly manner. He will remain as a member of my unofficial “CUSTOMER HALL OF FAME” forever. On two separate occasions, Bernie picked up our check at restaurants...once at Red Lobster and the other at Longbranch. Thanks again Bernie. Marion has lost one great citizen. Watch over us here on earth and help guide us down the right path.

We lost a wonderful friend, neighbor, citizen, captain of industry & banking, philanthropist, conservative patriot, and political mentor. The Jacobsen family mourns the loss of Bernie. We extend our deepest sympathies to wife Barb, and to their four children and many grandchildren. —Jon A. Jacobsen, Iowa Legislature, House of Representatives, Pottawattamie County

Barb and the family--Marion has just lost another of the true caretakers of Marion. My sympathy to you all. RIP, Bernie....you were one of the good guys.
