Virginia Maxine Dauenbaugh-Benson, 84, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Center Point, IA, passed away September 7, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA, after a long illness.  Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 3:00 pm at the Rowley Methodist Church in Rowley, Iowa where she was a member for over 60 years. A gathering for family and friends will follow the service to reminisce.

Virginia was born February 2, 1934, to Virl and Pauline Dauenbaugh. She graduated from Center Point High School in 1951 and married the love of her life, Bob Benson, on June 29, 1952. They lived in various places between Center Point and Rowley before settling down in Rowley in 1958. Virginia worked as Secretary for South Elementary School in Rowley from 1968 to 1981; Secretary for Independence High School from 1981 to 1984; and then worked as a Teacher Associate in every school building in the Independence School District until retiring in May of 1999. 

Virginia loved her family dearly and loved spending time with all her family.  That was always a priority for her and she made everyone feel welcomed in her home. She quilted and embroidered in her spare time and she made quilts and blankets for all her children and grandchildren. She was very active in her church and loved music, especially bluegrass and country.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, her sister Verla Cole, her sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Violet and Raymond Haars, Ed Wall, Jim Sherman, Barb Carver, Robyn Benson.

Survivors include her four children, Steve (Laurel) Benson of Lee’s Summit, MO, Sheryl (Bob) Gates and Alan (Connie) Benson all of Cedar Rapids, Annette (Keith) Brooks of Indianola, IA, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, brother Lowell (Joyce) Dauenbaugh, brothers in-law Don Cole, Wayne Carver, Bill Benson, Ken (Pat) Benson, sisters in-law, Velma (Vernon) Roseberry, Helen Wall, Ann Comried, Pat Sherman, along with lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Rowley United Methodist Church in Rowley, IA or the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, IA.
