Lavern E. Eschen, 86, of Marshalltown, died Thursday September 20, 2018, in the Iowa Veterans Home. Services: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

Survivors include his children; Douglas (Lori) Eschen of Independence, Iowa, Dennis (Carol) Eschen of Basin, Wyoming, David Eschen of Wenatchee, Washington, Diana Eschen of Spokane, Washington, Donna (Shane) Pruett of Kennewick, Washington, and Brian (DeDe) Eschen of Marion, Iowa, his siblings, Junior (Otto) Eschen of Independence and Darlas Reilly of Humboldt, Iowa. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lee and Lewis and sisters-in-law Ina, Joann and Shirley, brother-in-law Terry Reilly, and one grandchild.

Lavern was born May 24, 1932 in Independence, Iowa, the son of Otto and Elsie (Sanky) Eschen. Lavern served during the Korean War Conflict and was a member of the Teamster Union and the Million Miles Club. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan but his real passion was driving truck which he did for over 50 years.  He drove truck for Corn Blossom/Iowa Ham Canning, KRX, Munson, Heartland and Grey Transportation.
