Eugene (Gene) Earl Johnson, 81, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Tuesday, September 04, 2018 at his home, after a yearlong battle with cancer, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.   Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 9, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10th at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3500 29th Ave, Marion, Iowa followed by a luncheon.  Interment will held 1:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.

Gene was born February 22, 1937 in Strawberry Point, Iowa the son of Marion and Hannah (Wolf) Johnson.  Gene grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa and a graduate of Strawberry Point High School.  After graduation he began working at Collins Radio, and then went into the Navy Reserves and honorably served two years.

Gene married Beverly Linderwell on June 11, 1959 in Walker, Minnesota and lived in Cedar Rapids the rest of his life.  Gene was a loyal employee for Rockwell Collins and worked as a supervisor from 1955 until 1999.  He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection for many years.  After retirement Gene and Bev spent eighteen winters at Palm Shadows in Donna, Texas.

A few of Gene’s passions were fishing, golfing, gardening or spending time with his beloved family.  He considered his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren his greatest legacy and enjoyed visiting them often.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Beverly, and his children Kim (Nick) Cappussi, Robin (Tom) Kenney, Shannon Johnson, Kelly (Tammy) Johnson and Chad Johnson; eight beloved grandchildren; Kevin (Dana) Johnson, Nicholas (Bekka) Cappussi, Krystal (Brent) Klostermann, Christopher (Valerie) Cappussi, Travis Johnson, Emily Johnson, Jeannette Johnson, Logan Johnson, and six great grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Marion and Hannah Johnson.  

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center or Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids.
