Jeff D. Heying, 59, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous two-year battle with a rare stomach cancer.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Lori and his children: Kari (Aaron) Goninen, Madison, WI; Christopher Clime, Cedar Rapids, IA; Kathleen Clime (Matt Calef), Cedar Rapids, IA; and Kacie McGinnity, Madison, WI; along with seven grandchildren: Camden, Brinley, Beckett, Isaac, Hannah, Livian and Carter. Jeff is also survived by his mother, Marion Heying (Snyder), and brothers: Gene (Sue) Heying, George (Junever) Heying, all of Sumner, IA; Gerry Heying, Waterloo, IA; and Jay (Lisa) Heying, North Liberty, IA. All of these individuals are better people because of Jeff’s existence, and all will miss him dearly.

Jeff was born on October 15, 1958, in Sumner, IA, the son of Irvin and Marion Heying (Snyder). He attended Sumner High School and graduated in 1977. Jeff worked several years at Donaldson Company, Inc., in Oelwein, IA. He moved to Cedar Rapids, IA in 2000 and worked for General Mills for 18 years. Jeff loved his family and enjoyed life. He spent many hours frog-hunting with his grandson Isaac, enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Oddly enough, he loved trading vehicles and negotiating a great ‘deal’. He was kind to everyone he met and made us all laugh. He will be a reminder, to all who knew him, of the power of kindness and humor. Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Irvin Heying.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Stateroom.

The family would like to express their thanks to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics Holden Cancer Center as well as Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the wonderful help and care provided to Jeff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family for the purpose of educational scholarships.
