Memorial

Carl E. Carson, 84, of Cedar Rapids died Monday October 8, 2018 at Country View Senior Living in North Liberty. Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Leroy Bradway will officiate. Private family inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, two daughters Marcia (Randy) Loan of Cosgrove, Karen (Mike) Beer of West Des Moines, and a son Dave (Philippa) of Bellevue, Washington. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Ben (Nikki) Hines, Dylan Hines, Chelsea Hines, Ryan (Kelsey) Beer, Megan (Mitch) Beckert, and Trevor and Grant Carson; two great grandchildren, Oscar and Goldie Hines, and a sister-in-law Jeanne Carson of Troy Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene.

Carl was born on March 31, 1934 in Troy Mills, the son of Willard and Kristine Schonberg Carson. He received both his undergraduate degree and masters from the University of Northern Iowa. 

Carl taught and was a principal in the Cedar Rapids Community School District for over 36 years, retiring in 1996.

Carl proudly served in the Army in Korea. He enjoyed time spent with his beloved family as well as flying his 1940 Tayorcraft airplane for over 50 years.  Carl will be forever remembered as a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend.
