Memorial
John H. Dyer, 81, of Boulder, Colorado, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died May 21, 2018 in Colorado following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. for John and his wife Phyllis, who passed six days after John, on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
John was born May 28, 1936 in Delaware County, Iowa, the son of John and Frances Dyer. He graduated from Manchester High School, class of 1954 and attended the University of Iowa. He worked for Sears at Lindale Mall for 34 years, retiring in 1993. In retirement he enjoyed working part-time for True Value Hardware Store. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard and a member of Calvin-Sinclair Presbyterian Church.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Harry on June 10, 1961. His family includes his wife, Phyllis; a son, David Dyer (Suzanne) of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Ann Chavarria (Victorio) Corvallis, Oregon and Susan Dyer Risser (Cameron) West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Henry, Owen and Audrey Dyer of Boulder, Colorado; two sisters, Mary Kay Harry (Cletus) of Rochester, Minnesota and Joyce Harry (Roger) of Manchester, Iowa; sister-in-law, Darleen Dyer of Dubuque, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Janis Dorman, and a brother, Gary Dyer.
John always enjoyed sports and was a die-hard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play basketball and football. His other interests were traveling, playing cards, gardening and woodworking. Above all, he loved and enjoyed his family very much.
