Duane E. Brammer, 88 of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully Thursday May 10th.

Services at 10:30 AM on Tuesday May 15th at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. Visitation starting at 9 AM.   Rev. Daniel Krueger will officiate. Burial at Shiloh Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include, two sons Gary (Vicki) of Mt. Pleasant and Steve (Cara) of Medford, Oregon. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren and his brother Chuck. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Don.  Duane’s beloved wife, Arlene passed away on February 2, 2018.   

Duane was a born on April 23, 1930 in a farmhouse near Grand River, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Florence Brammer. He married Arlene Carlson on November 18, 1950 in Grand River.

Duane served in the army during the Korean War as a tank retriever and mechanic. He and Arlene farmed after the war and later owned an ice cream shop and TV business in Tingley, Iowa.  Eventually Duane accepted a job with Collins Radio and moved his family to Cedar Rapids.  He retired at the age of 56 and he and Arlene had a wonderful retirement.  They spent 10 years working at Yellowstone Park and 23 years wintering at Gulf Shores, Alabama.  

Duane was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and volunteered many years at St. Luke’s Hospital.  Duane enjoyed fishing, boating, biking, playing cards, weekly bible studies, and interacting with his friends at the Rec Center. 

Duane will forever be remembered as a loving husband (67 years), father, grandfather and friend to many.  “You will be greatly missed!”
