Alton Wilhelm Lovstuen (91) died early Friday morning May 25, 2018 at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services will be held at 11am on Saturday June 2, 2018 with a visitation starting at 10am at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, 4200 1st Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Surviving are wife, Rosemary, of the home; sons Wayne Lovstuen (Kirksville, MO) and wife Jane; Randall Lovstuen (Cedar Rapids) and fiancé Penny Anderson; Gary Lovstuen (Houston, TX) and wife Laura Hood; daughters Marsha Ralston (Cedar Rapids) and husband Corky; Traci Freeseman (Waterloo, IA) and husband Michael, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Alton in death were his parents, Nels Lovstuen and Hilda (Hagen) Lovstuen; brothers Alert, Norton, and Milton; sisters Martha Moe and Thelma Moen.
Alton was born in Decorah, IA in 1926 and graduated from Decorah High School. He served in the army in WWII from 1945-1946. In 1950 he married Rosemary Barth. From Decorah they moved to Dubuque, IA until 1961, when they moved to Cedar Rapids. Alton worked for Wilson’s (later Farmstead) foods until 1991, later working independently in bookkeeping and in time-study for several companies throughout the Midwest.
Alton was able to take the “Honor Flight” for WWII Vets on October 16, 2012 with his son, Randall.
Alton loved the time he spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cribbage and teaching the game to the younger generations. He and Rosemary hosted many family gatherings for birthdays and holidays. He also enjoyed visiting area casinos with family and friends.
