Memorial

Dean Lawrence "Larry" Thompson, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday March 11th, 2018 at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 27th, 11am, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  Visitation will be held Monday March 26th from 5 to 7 pm at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.  

Larry was born November 4th, 1941, in Santa Monica, California.  He graduated from Parsons College in 1964.  On April 16th, 1983 he married Erma VanDeest.  Larry worked at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 2005.  He enjoyed many hobbies which included raising fish and birds, volleyball, golf, fishing, boat racing, hiking, being a member of the Eastern Iowa Pond Society and spending time with family. 

Survivors include his wife Erma Thompson, children; Brian (Beth) Thompson and Scott (Amy) Thompson of Texas, Allen (Cindy) Clough and Jill (Jeff) Wright of Cedar Rapids; Brothers Scott (Jan) Thompson, CO and Dennis (Carol) Miers, TX;  grandchildren; Reid, Aaron, Ginger, Rosie, Haylie (Austin), Shelby (Alex), Taylor, Cameron and  great-grandchildren; Keller, Watson, Devin, Logan and Rylie. 

Preceded in death by his parents Peter Thompson and Marjorie Miers.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oldorf Hospice House, 315 18th Avenue; Hiawatha, Iowa in memory of Larry would be greatly appreciated.
