Robert D. Cribbs of Mount Vernon was born in Mason City, Iowa to parents Harry and Ethel (Jones) Cribbs on September 8, 1927.   He passed away at age 90, with his daughters at his side, at Hallmar Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 13, 2018.

While in high school he was awarded the Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts highest award.   He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served three years during World War II.  After one year of radar training, he was assigned to the fleet training school in Hawaii and later to the USS Boxer aircraft carrier.

He received a BS degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State College and an MS degree in industrial engineering from the University of Iowa.  He worked as an electrical engineer for Collins Radio Company/Rockwell for 38 years where he designed radio communication equipment.

He married F. Phyllis Olson of Carlisle on July 27, 1952.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.  He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia Myers of Nevada and Patricia (Greg) Sindt of Story City; five grandchildren Sarah (Brent) Arndt, Christa Sindt, Amanda (Jason) Ryon, Andrew (Abbey) Sindt, Abigail Sindt;  four great grandchildren and his brother Richard of Tucson.

He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and long-time dog companion, Poodles.  Robert was a very kind, caring gentleman who will be missed by his family and friends.  The family appreciates the kindness of the Hallmar staff.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, June 15 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, 4200 NE First Ave, Cedar Rapids.  Visitation will be noon to 1:00 pm preceding the memorial service.   Burial with military honors will be in Carlisle, Iowa following the memorial service.
