Arla Potter Zmoos (87) finished her mission on earth and was called home to our Heavenly Father on July 22, 2018.
She was born March 6, 1931 on the family farm near Fayette, Iowa to Charles Henry Potter and Helena Wazlauski. Arla graduated from Fayette High School in 1948 and married Roland Alfred Zmoos on June 8, 1948. They were blessed with 8 children in quick succession and she devoted her life to raising them in a loving home. Arla loved to cook and bake, and host dinners for family and friends. She was a skilled seamstress. She was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many different capacities until her passing. She served with Roland as a missionary in Kentucky from 1984-86. As a widow, she again served a mission in Salt Lake City from 2002-2004.
Arla was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Daryl Donnavon Potter, and her sisters Myrna Wynema Kaune, and Velma Elaine Goddard.
She is survived by her children; Stephen Daniel Zmoos, Brenda Lee Sparenborg (Steven), Brian Roland Zmoos, Cynthia Ann Miyasaki (Kevin), Michael Joseph Zmoos (Karen), Marsha Deloris Douglas (Bradley), Rebecca Margaret Stahle (Noel), and Rhonda Renae Butler (Ron Mills); and 22 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren.
Our angel mother had an upbeat, sunny disposition which brightened the lives of all who knew her. She constantly gave of herself in service to others, and befriended all. A visitation will be held Friday, July 27th from 6:00-8:00pm at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, 4200 1st. Ave. N.E., Cedar Rapids. An additional visitation from 12:30-1:30 p.m. will precede the funeral on Saturday, July 28th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4150 Blue Jay Drive, N.E., Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 p.m. at the church with interment to follow at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
