Ella May was born in Hulett, Wyoming, spent some childhood in the Black Hills  until her father traded his ranch for a farm in Iowa near Mechanicsville. There she graduated from high school in 1934 during hard times. However, her father made sure she went to State Teachers College to become a teacher. She married her high school sweetheart, John H. Eggert on September 8, 1940 in Iowa City. He was soon drafted to serve in the war in Europe. Meanwhile she taught 3rd grade. When the war was over she and John had a daughter, Jane. In 1989, John passed away.  As a widow for nearly 30 years, she was kept busy with her 2 granddaughters and her pets.

Some of her other interests included teaching Sunday School, working with plants, reading, and keeping up with the news.  She prided herself on living nearly to her 102 birthday. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Memorials may be made to SPT Theater, Bridge Haven, Cedar Valley Humane Society or New Covenant Bible Church in memory of Ella May.
