Joy Esther Cheney, 83, of Monticello, Iowa died Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

Celebration of Life:  2:00 pm Monday, March 5, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, Iowa, with the Rev. Emory Gillespie officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm at the church on Monday. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery (Garden of the Cross), Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Douglas (Janie) Cheney of Omaha, NE, Kristine (Bruce) Stolba of Cedar Rapids and Jeffrey (Dana) Cheney of Clearwater, FL; grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Cheney, Joshua Cheney, Jennifer Stolba, Shawn (Makenzie) Cheney and Ryan Cheney; great granddaughter, Hazel Mae Cheney.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Joy Esther Oliver was born April 30, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Orlo and Maryesther (Kriz) Oliver. On October 11, 1952, she married Rex Cheney at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  They owned and operated the Dairy Mart Drive-In in Monticello for many years. They later divorced. Joy was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello.  She was an Elder, sang in the Choir, assisted the pie committee, taught Sunday school and enjoyed her Circle.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Past Matron of Shreiner Chapter, Monticello, Malta Chapter, Cedar Rapids, and Minnehaha Chapter, Colesburg, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, listening to the Gaithers, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. 1st St, Monticello, IA 52310.
