Dorothy “Dottie” Mae Rapps, 97, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Living Center West Nursing home. Per Dottie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. She will be buried at Garrison, Iowa Cemetery at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is caring for Dottie and her family.
Dorothy Mae Newman was born on February 10th 1920; the daughter of Delbert and Caroline (Schmitt) Newman. Dottie married Earl Spencer, they later divorced. She then married Dale Buttleman, they later divorced. Dottie was united in marriage to George H. Rapps on April 16th 1977, he later passed away. She worked at Collin’s Radio as a test tech. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, Duane “Spike” Buttleman; two siblings, Margaret Myers and James Newman
Left to cherish Dottie’s memories are son, James (Jerry) Buttleman of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Steve Buttleman and Sheryl Sargent; four great-grandchildren, Megan Coriell, Tyler Buttleman, Zach Sargent and Marie Kauffman; two great-great-grandchildren, Ivan Kauffman and Karly Kauffman; nephew, Randy Newman; and Great Nephew, Josh Newman.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Humane Society (7411 Mount Vernon Rd SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52403) or a humane society of your choice in Dottie’s name. She loved her dogs, dearly.
