Memorial

Thomas Phillip Saunders, 55, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly of natural causes Monday, December 3, 2018 at his home. Funeral Mass: 11:00 am Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Matthew Catholic Parish in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will take be held from 4-7 pm Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Private Family Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Tom was born October 17, 1963, the son of Phillip and Roberta (Carrothers) Saunders, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Washington High School in 1982 and later went on to Hawkeye Community College to pursue photography. Tom moved to Oregon where he worked for Cub Foods until his return home to Cedar Rapids in 1999. He began his career at the Marion Hy-Vee working in the Meat Department, where he was worked for the last nineteen years. 

Tom was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and in his younger days, enjoyed hunting with his father. More than anything, he loved being a father to his only daughter, Regan. She was the best gift he could have ever hoped for. 

Survivors include his daughter, Regan Saunders; parents, Phillip and Roberta Saunders; brother, Jim (Susan) Saunders; uncle and aunt, Dale and Peg Carrothers; and niece, Olivia Saunders. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
