Memorial

Verne Allen Long, 93, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 10am.

Verne Allen Long was born on June 3, 1925; the son of Arthur and Anna (Unash) Long. Verne was united in marriage to Katherine “Kay” Rick.  He proudly served in the United States Navy as Radar Man 3rd Class and served on the ship Bandara from 1943-1946.  In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and trout fishing, Verne was also a master gardener, loved traveling with his wife Kay all over the world. He retired from Penford, and most of all loved his dogs and birds. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Kay in 2003. 

Left to cherish Verne’s memories are his sister, Pat A. Hartle of Hiawatha; surrogate daughter, Lesta (Kenny Robertson) Sarazin, and many nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha in his name.
