Beamer Breiling was born September 26, 1936 in Berkeley, California; the son of Kathryn Louise Beamer and Ottmar Alfred Breiling.  Following World War II, he attended public schools in Oakland, California and graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1954.  He attended the University of California Berkley from 1954-1956 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Utah in 1961.  Beamer taught in the College of Pharmacy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska from 1961-1963, and then attended Creighton University School of Medicine graduating in 1967.  Beamer and Constance Kaeline Mutchie were married in Grand Island, Nebraska at St. Mary’s Cathedral in 1965.  Following graduation from medical school Beamer completed residencies in general surgery at both Creighton University and San Joaquin General Hospital (French Camp, California) from 1967 – 1972.  After completing his residencies, the family moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky where Beamer served at Ireland Army Hospital from 1972-1975.  After military service the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he practiced general surgery from 1975 – 2008.

Beamer is survived by his wife, Connie; three children, Bethann (David) Podjenski of Blue Springs, Missouri, Kurtis (Angela) Breiling of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Greg Breiling of Omaha, Nebraska; Eight grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, Andrew, Marybeth and Benjamin Podjenski, Karli, Jacob and Maxwell Breiling; a sister, Margrette Bulloch of Moraga, California; a brother, Brian (Jennifer) Breiling of Nevada, City, California;  Brother-in-Law, Kelly (Kathy) Mutchie of Omaha, Nebraska and Sister-in-Law, Sheila Fila of Grand Island, Nebraska and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beamer was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery (1974) and a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, Iowa Medical Society, Linn County Medical Society and staff membership at both Mercy and St. Luke’s Hospitals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He was a member of Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary.  Beamer enjoyed time spent with family, traveling, politics, theatre, sporting events and fun times at their lake cabin.  

Beamer is preceded in death by his parents, Ottmar and Kathryn Breiling; in-laws, Clinton and Roesetha Mutchie; granddaughter, Hillary Podjenski; brothers-in-law, Ian Bulloch and Rick Fila.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 17 at All Saints Catholic Church, 720 29th St SE, Cedar Rapids.  Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 16 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave NE, from 4:00-7:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 pm.
