Memorial

Janice Marie Jacoby Snyder, 77, of Marion, passed through the Gates of Heaven to join all her loving family there on October 22, 2017.  She battled through cancer, diabetes, and COPD for years before succumbing finally, she was surrounded by her loving family at the end.

Funeral services will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Friday October 27, 2017, 2:00 pm.  Burial will follow immediately in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 4 pm to 7 pm, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, including a rosary at 7 pm.

Janice Jacoby was born September 23, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, at the University of Iowa Hospital to her loving parents Jesse Winson Jacoby and Betty Jean (Reid) Jacoby.  Janice was the oldest of four children.  

Janice was married three times, bearing four children during her first marriage.  She divorced the two early marriages before finding the love of her life, Allen Snyder, in 1987.  They shared a special love until Allen passed away in 2006.  Allen will share the final journey with Janice with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  

Janice attended Taylor Elementary and Wilson Junior High Schools.  She would have been with the first graduating class at Jefferson High School, but didn’t complete her education at this time.  After many years she returned to Kirkwood. 1983, to finish her education.  She obtained her diploma and GED.

During her lifetime Janice worked at DJ’s Lounge, K-Mart West, Chesapeake Security, all in Iowa.  She held many positions at  Ramada Inn before ending up the night manager.  After marrying Allen on October 17, 1987, they moved to Cottonwood, Arizona, where she was the manager of a fine dining restaurant. Allen and Janice lived in Yuma for 25 years, but after her mother and husband passed away in 2006, she moved back to her beloved Iowa.

Janice is survived by a brother, Larry Joseph(Dawn)Bender, four children, Jolene Marie (Gavin) Powell, Suzanne Jean Koopman, Roger Eugene Hinton, and Renee Irene Parrott.  Three aunts, Patsy Baker, Jackie(Don)Molander, and Mona(Walter)Bates.  Nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew.  She was blessed with six long life friends, Janice S, Shirley S, Ethel A, Vickie L, Paul E, and Barbara C.  To all my friends and family, I love you all and take care of yourselves, Facebook friends too.

To all the doctors and nurses who took such great care of me for so many years, special thanks to Dr Saxena, Dr Venkatesh, 5th floor Center, the PCI Chemo, and Dr Bell.   If I missed anyone, I’m sorry.  To Dawn F, Barbara C, Kathy W, and Father Mark of St Josephs, a special thank you. Thank you to Therapy Solutions and Hospice Care with Robin and Becky.

Janice was a long time member of the VFW Auxillary #788.

Janice was preceded in death by loving husband Allen Richard Snyder, her parents Jesse Winson Jacoby and Betty Jean Reid Jacoby Bender, her step father John Lavern Bender, grandparents Gertrude Jacoby Bates, Jesse Winson Gray, Uncle Walter Bates, grandparents Oval(Ruth Cheney)Reid, two brothers Douglas Lee Jacoby and Roger Eugene Jacoby.

A memorial fund has been established and will be directed to the family.

A very special thank you and I love you to my care giver, my daughter Suzanne, who took special care of me since my return from Arizona 11 years ago with many serious health problems.  I don’t know what I would have done without your constant and loving care. Now at the end you’re with me 24/7.

Allen Richard Snyder, 71, died January 30, 2006, in Yuma, Arizona. Allen was born July 10, 1934, in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  Allen was a 25 year resident of Yuma.  Allen retired from the Arizona Public Service in 1991 as a foreman. The company is a light utility, he was a 51 year member of the I.B.E.W. along with a long time member of Local #387.

At the time, Allen was survived by his loving wife Janice Jacoby Snyder whom he married October 17, 1987, also his four step children who belong to his wife, brother-in-law Larry(Dawn)Bender, and cousin Sherwood Snyder III.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert(Olive Barrick)Snyder, a brother Eugene Snyder, and a mother-in-law Betty Jean (Reid Jacoby) Bender.

Services were private at the time of his death in Yuma, Arizona.  His cremated remains will be interred with his wife where he asked to be put.
