James Meiborg, 64, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family. 
 
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, 11:00 am, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel in Cedar Rapids.  A visitation will begin at 10:00 am, prior to the service.   
 
James Edward Meiborg Jr. (Jim) was born on October 24, 1953, to James and Helen (Mraz) Meiborg, in Columbia, Missouri.  Jim married, Kathy Achenbach, on Oct 2, 1971, in North English, Iowa.  He graduated from English Valleys High School in 1972, and continued his education, while playing football, at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.  He graduated in 1977 and became a teacher and a coach until 1982.  Jim then worked in finance for several years. He finished his career at Rockwell-Collins before retiring in July 2017.  Jim also enjoyed driving school bus for College Community Schools for many years.  Jim was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved the Iowa State Cyclones.  He enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors with his family, and beloved dog, Tinsley.  Visiting state parks became a hobby.  He cherished time with his family, including watching his sons' and grandchildren's sporting events.  Jim took great joy playing with his grandchildren; throwing batting practice, rebounding and playing football.  He was their biggest fan.  
 
Survivors include his wife Kathy Meiborg, of Cedar Rapids, sons, Travis Meiborg, of Independence, Iowa, Tory (Kara) Meiborg, of Cedar Rapids, and Tyler Meiborg , of Cedar Rapids.  Brothers, George (Gloria) Meiborg, of Boone, Mike Meiborg, of Iowa City, sisters, Suzi (George) Delpapa, of Victoria, Australia, Judy Michael, of Ames, Iowa, and Cindy (Keith) Gatrost, of Center Point, Iowa. Grandchildren, Andrew, Autumn, Alex, Abby, Ozzie, Max, and Albert Meiborg.   
 
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Meiborg, and in-laws, Andrew and Roeberta Achenbach, and grandchild, Travis Ross.
