Mary E. Porter, 93 a resident of the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center in Monticello, died there on Wednesday May 24, 2017. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 9:00 AM on Tuesday. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivor include three daughters; Mary (Jack) Reed of Cedar Rapids, Bonny Gordon of Central City and Becky (Marvin) Andrews of Vinton; a son Meryle (Frank) and his wife Gloria of Carrolton, Texas; one brother George (Virginia) White of Manchester;  three sisters Eleanor Williamson of St Petersburg, Florida, Florence Parrott and Helen (Cliff) Cole both of Manchester. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, grandparents, parents, four brothers David, Walter (Bud), and William (Bill) White and Theodore (Ted) Williams, two sisters Marjorie White and Etta Ballard; and a grandson Roy V. Gordon III.

Mary was born on April 3, 1924 in Manchester the daughter of George and Louie Maude    Harman White. She was raised by her grandparents, Joseph and Ida White and attended Manchester School, the class of 1942.  

She married Meryle F. Porter Sr. on October 4, 1941 in Kirksville, Missouri and were married for 67 years. They farmed in Delaware and Linn Co. before moving to Hiawatha in 1964. Meryle passed away February 22, 2009. Mary worked at Sears and Roebuck for over 24 years retiring in 1985. Later moving to Palo in 1999, and then to Central City in 2008.

She attended Palo Methodist Church, Palo Senior Dinning, the class of 1942 and enjoyed the Sears Retiree Group. Mary loved and enjoyed her family, and all her grandchildren great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She also enjoyed her flowers, crocheting and playing cards.
