October 2, 2017 To Darrell's family: I was greatly saddened to learn of Darrell's passing. I hadn't been to Lindale for several months and recently learned of the store's closing and his death. He indeed was a caring, skilled and helpful man. He repaired my shoes for many, many years. Could put an orthopedic device on the soles of my shoes in just a few days and at an affordable price. The shop may have looked like chaos, but he was so organized he could find your shoe and always remembered your face! Not many out there like him. He will be missed in so many ways. He lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.

To Darrell's Family: We are two of the many people who had the pleasure of knowing Darrell through coming to his shop over many, many years. Not only did we appreciate the work that he did for us, but we also enjoyed the time we spent talking to him. He was a wonderful guy, and we're sure that there are many, many others who, like us, you will never get to meet who had the same kinds of experiences with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May he rest in peace.

I was at the mall not long ago with a pair of shoes and Darrell was closing up his business. Shortly after that, I heard that he was ill, and today I learned that he passed away. Please accept my sympathies. Thinking of Darrell and the Gatewood and Paulsen families brings back memories of Gib, Alice, Steven, and shared experiences while working at Cedar Memorial. Years pass so quickly. I pray that your happy memories will help you through this time of sadness. Sincerely, Myra

Positive thoughts and prayers to the all of the family and friends. Even on a bad day Darrell would often say things can always be worse so we should be happy with what we got. May we all take from Darrell's example and live a positive life. May God Bless

My thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. I worked at Lindale for many years and would often run into Darrell getting his morning coffee and cookie at Great American Cookie Company- chewy pecan if I remember correctly. He was a great guy and will be missed by many!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Darrell was one of the finest people I have ever known. Always willing to help anyone he could. He will be missed but will live on in our memories.

Sorry to learn of Darrell's passing. Our family took our shoes and purses to Darrell for many years to be repaired. He always got it done right. He will be missed.

Thoughts and prayers to the family of Darrell, I have known him all my life starting the friendship when he had his business at Town & Country and continued til now. He was a very special man and will be greatly missed!

Darrell was truly a one-of-a-kind soul! When we were experiencing some hard times last year, he talked to me and I could see in his eyes that his heart hurt for us and he would have done anything to take that pain away. You are now pain-free too, sir! Saying you will be missed is an under-statement. You were an amazing father, grandpa, husband, brother, and friend. We will always keep you and your amazing family in our hearts and "soles"

Sorry for your loss Pam, Justin, and Ashley. Darrell was awesome, and a big part of my childhood? he will be missed.

Rest in peace my old friend.

Dear Pam and Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. May the light of your loved one shine the brightest of all stars in heaven. Faith, Love, Hope, Joy and Peace.

Pam, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Our sincere condolences at Darrell's passing. He was always a great neighbor to have while we were at Lindale. He would keep an eye out for all of us and help us when needed. He will be greatly missed.

Pam- So very sorry for your loss. You were together a long time. I remember being the matron of honor at your wedding thinking you had found the perfect one and he had too. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Pam, A lifetime is never enough time to spend with the one you love. I'm sorry to hear of Darrell's passing. After Dennis called me on Monday I sat in my office thinking about some of the times I've shared with you and Darrell. What came to mind was the times you both took Steven and I to the drive in theater. I can remember Steven and I would sit in the back of the truck and watch " Star Wars" I'm sure, while you and Darrell sat in the cab watching the movie on the other screen. Steven and I would peak in the back window and catch you two kissing. With a giggle we would quickly turn around thinking you two would see us. I'm not sure why that came to mind, but I'm sure your love for each other has only grown stronger from those days. The good times will always be in your heart. My prayers are with you and your family this week as you say your goodbyes.

Darrell was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. To Doug and myself he was a very special friend. Sometimes in life, you find a special friend. Someone who changes your life just by being part of it. Someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world. Someone who convinces you that there really is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. This is forever friendship. Your forever friend is someone you share meals with and talk with and your life is better just because you all breathe the same air. Your forever friend gets you through the hard times, the sad times and the confused times. You have a forever friend, and forever has no end. I hope the expressions of sympathy that you must be receiving from everyone provide some consolation to you. I hope you and your family can find peace in the memories that you have of him. May God bless you and your wonderful family.

My cobolances to the fsmily. I have been taking items to Darrell for over 20 years. We had a lit of wonderful conversations with his trade. I always told him he was a Go ol boy", He was so giving to help others. He will be missed, not only for his trade but the friendship we had.

Please accept my condolences. Darrell was truly one-of-a-kind and he had a resonating effect on the community around him. He was an incredibly talented craftsman and a stellar friend. I'm going to miss him and I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.

I was so sorry to learn this morning of Darrells passing. I got up this morning and made a list of what I wanted to do today...on that list was to call and see if it was ok to come over this afternoon to see Darrell again. I have been a friend with Darrell for over 40 years and I will miss talking to him every day at the mall. I must admit, I never could figure out how he found all the shoes at his shop when someone came to pick them up...but he did. My thoughts and prayers will be with you today and for all the days to come.

How truly blessed and lucky we are for having known such a wonderful man. Darrell would give us the shirt off his back if we needed it. He always looked out for Allie and I like we were family. We were considered "Mall Family" and we will forever be honored to have that title in his cell phone and heart...Our sincere sympathy to all the Gatewoods...Darrell was one of a kind...and will never be forgotten.

Pam, I'm so sorry for your loss. Darrell was such a kind man. He fixed many shoes and purses for me and would only accept a thank you. May all your happy memories be comforting to you in the days to come. You and your family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Sara Kurt
