Evelyn M. Highley, 85 of Cedar Rapids died at her home on Friday January 6, 2017. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Monday.

Survivors include four sons Roy (Emiko) of Jefferson, Iowa, Charles of Maquoketa, Brice, Mark both of Cedar Rapids, and a daughter Ellen (Pete) Tusher of Vinton; 4 sisters Irene Suckow, Doris Potts, Jackie Bernsden and Opal Goeke; two brothers John and Sidney (Lila) Smith. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Lt. Aaron, Maj. Vincent, Maj. Oliver, Kumiko and Trent Highley, Adam Spilman and Angie (Billy) Howie; great grandchildren; Arne, Sakura, and Soren Kvaal; Ezekiel, Malachi and Micah Spilman and Rayshon Price. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Susan Smith and a brother Ivan Smith.

Evelyn was born on November 3, 1931 in Postville the daughter of Leonard and Frances Koons Smith. She married Roy L. Highley on January 17, 1948 in Waukon. Roy passed away in 2015. 

After graduating from Kirkwood’s Horticultural Program Evelyn worked at Barlow’s Foods and retired from there as the manager of their floral dept. She enjoyed gardening, working on her farm, and quilting. Evelyn was a member of the Cactus Club and was a very talented and gifted artist. 

Evelyn was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
