Lynn B. Kehm at the age of 94 was called to his eternal home on February 9, 2017 from complications of Parkinson disease. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor David Renfro presiding. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be at Linnwood Cemetery following the service. Cedar Memorial Westside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lynn was born December 2, 1922 in Compton, Illinois to Christian J. and Elsie V. (Thomassen) Kehm. The family moved to Cedar Rapids when Lynn was 5 years old and he graduated from Roosevelt High School in June 1941. Lynn joined the Army in early 1943 and was attached to the 7th Infantry Division. He served his country proudly and was involved in the invasions of Leyte in the Philippines as well as Okinawa before returning home after the war ended in 1946, having obtained the rank of Master Sergeant.  He was able to make an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2011 with his son Michael before his health failed him.

Lynn was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Sobers on May 30, 1948. He and Dorothy were blessed with four children, Karen (Lee) Schuldt of Delaware, Michael (Melissa) of Marion, Douglas (Lori) of Omaha, and Julie (David) Laylin of Hiawatha. He adored his nine grandchildren, Kyle Schuldt, Andrea Nus, Katheryn Stewart, Colin,  Clinton, and Chloe Kehm and Andrew, Jordan Hare,  along with Dylan Laylin as well as his eight great grandchildren and one on the way.

Lynn was employed for more than 40 years at Iowa Manufacturing where he held several different positions. He was also very active in his church and served on numerous boards over the years including two terms as a deacon. He also served as president of the congregation in the early 1970’s.

He will be remembered by his family and friends for his gentle and caring nature. His willingness to help anyone in need was only one of his remarkable attributes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and sister, his brother Tom, sister-in-law Jean Kehm, infant grandson Kevin Schuldt and daughter-in-law, Patricia Kehm. The family request no flowers, but rather memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1363 1st Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.

As a family we wish to thank Dr. Richard Pope and staff, along with the entire staff at Hiawatha Care Center for such wonderful and loving care over the past 4 years.
