Larry McKinnon

Born in Cedar Rapids, IA
Born on Dec 8, 1935
Departed on Dec 19, 2017

Christy and Cathy and Mark and Todd....I am so sorry for your loss. Larry and I have known each other for over thirty years. He was my golfing partner twice and my canoeing partner once, and I wish there could have been more events like those. His good hearted view of people made him special in the eyes of everyone I knew who came into the barbershop. I will miss him greatly. ....Kevin

I was so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. He was my barber for 50 years. He came back from the flood of 2008 and continued his business. He was a great man and I know will be missed by his family.

Christy, Cathy, Mark and Todd, we're so sorry to hear of your loss. Larry and my Dad were good friends, and both were Korean War veterans. And Larry cut hair for my two brothers and me for many many years. It was always fun to visit and see what new taxidermy he had in his shop! He was a very kind and great man.

I am sorry for your loss. Several haircuts with my father at Larry's barbershop - a man of the community and friend.

I am so sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. He gave me my first haircut in 1958, my son his first haircut in 1981, and my grandsons their first haircuts in 2009 and 2011. Larry was a great friend, caring, thoughtful, and kind. He will be missed.

He was my first barber when I came to Cedar Rapids in 1964. He gave our son his first hair cut 50 years ago. He and Larry Koering remodeled our kitchen. He was a wonderful man.

Larry thought me to play racquetball at the Ellis YMCA where we played for many years. Such fond memories. So sorry for your loss.

Larry gave me my first haircut and was my only barber into my 20s. I moved out of state but would stoll stop in during my 30s and 40s. He was always up on local sports and had great articles up in his shop. He was a true fixture of nw cedar rapids and always great to talk too. He will be missed.

Larry was so much more than a local barber. He was a dear man, husband, father, grandfather, master of many crafts, and all around good guy. My life will be a little less cheerful without the reassuring warmth that connected me with my childhood and my own father. If Life is about small things that truely matter then losing Larry McKinnon leaves no small hole in the world he left behind this week. I’ll miss you, and I’ll never forget you.

Larry was my family's barber for at least 20 years. He was a great guy, always had a great photo to look at, talk about local happenings, he would cut my sons hair and know that myself or his dad would be along shortly to cover the cost or get a haircut as well. We loved his calm and steady demeanor, his sneaky wit and his love for his job, his photos, his family and sports and outdoors. When the flood hit my husband did the plumbing for him, he was so grateful and kind, just can't say enough and oh how I will miss seeing him working in the shop. I'm sorry we weren't able to attend the services, but please know how our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Sincerely, Chris, Brian, and Drew
