James “Jim”  H. Woodson, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, after a valiant fight with cancer. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 12:30 p.m. at the chapel on Saturday.  Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jim was born July 28, 1935, to Howard and Lorraine Woodson in Independence, Iowa. He graduated from Winthrop High School. Jim married Harlene Berry on October 23, 1955. They remained together until her death on February 7, 2011.

Jim was employed by Hy-Vee for over 40 years, mostly as a produce manager. After retirement and Harlene’s death, he went back to work part time at the Edgewood Road store. Jim’s greatest passion was the Iowa Hawkeyes. His basement is filled with Hawkeye memorabilia-including his Hawkeye Christmas tree and the jacket he spent years getting bowl patches sewn on the back for. Throughout his life he always said “Do not bury me in a suit !  I want to buried in a Hawkeye sweatshirt”! His wish will be granted. Jim love watching American Pickers and Antiques Roadshow, as this reflected his love of antique collecting. Jim and Harlene bought and sold antiques at various shows around the Midwest throughout their marriage. His antique clock collection was his pride and joy. He also loved watching the Chicago Cubs on TV and going fishing so he could “drown some worms”. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years.

Jim will be dearly missed by his family: Sherri Woodson (Leonard Huffman), Julie Woodson (Pam Jernigan), Scott Woodson, Jay Woodson (Sherri) , and his three grandchildren; Sydney, Zach and Kayla Woodson. He is also survived by his sister Judy Hulke, brother-in-law Robert Berry, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Harlene, his parents, his younger sister, Kay Bowers, and brother-in-law Lyle Hulke.

Family wish to thank all the staff and nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital for their great care of our dad in his final weeks. The 6th Floor Hospice unit was especially caring in our time of need.

Dad: we will really miss you !!! Now you are with mom in heaven.

Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice in memory of Jim.
