Sally Ann Bruns, 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Linn Manor Care Facility, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral Mass: 11:00 am Friday, November 18, 2016 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Sally was born October 14, 1940, the daughter of Robert and Agnes (Lynch) Hall, in Cedar Falls. She was educated in Cedar Falls and Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in 1958. She attended Allen Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as an LPN. Sally worked in various Hospitals and for the Visiting Nurses Association in Cedar Falls and Waterloo. In 1981, she moved to a nursing position at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, where she retired in 2002. Sally loved working with the veterans, and often went on group outings with residents. 

She was married to Jerome Bruns on February 11, 1961. They had four children were the center of Sally’s life. She and Jerome were divorced in 1976, but remained friends until his death in 2011. 

Sally loved gardening and decorating. She took special pride in her roses and perennials. Sally was a lifelong lover of all animals, and she was happiest when she had a cat or dog cuddling in her arms. She would always lend a hand to help those in need, and her friends have often commented that she never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Sally will be dearly missed by all who knew her. 

Survivors include her four children, Mike Bruns, Tony Bruns, both of Marshalltown, Wendy Bruns of Cedar Rapids, Andy (Karen) Bruns of Hayward, CA; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Jenna, Tessa, Cody, Michael Tim, Atalia, Amara; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Mackenzie, Kasie, Kaylinn, Jeremiah, Kamryn-Jai; two brothers, Eddy (Patricia) Hall of Cedar Park, TX, Jerry (Mari) Hall of Johnston; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mary (Bernie) Witry.
