Memorial

Howard “Harv” Stinger, 79, of Cedar Rapids passed away on May 7, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Per his request he was cremated and a private family service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  Entrusted arrangements with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Howard Leaverne Stinger was born on June 18, 1936 to Francis and Edith Smith Stinger in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.  He was united in marriage to Dixie Wicher on June 4, 1955 in Cedar Rapids.  Howard will be forever missed by his loving family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dixie; daughter, Kimberli (Robert) Cornthwaite of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Oldfather of Marion; Ryan (Kelly) Oldfather of Cedar Rapids; and Chase “Mikey” Stinger (Katelyn Williams) of Hiawatha; great grandchildren, Skyler Stinger and Emily Oldfather; sisters, Doris (Bob) Hatcher of Stone City and Shirley LaBarge of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Stephanie Oldfather and son-in-law, David Oldfather.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of UnityPoint Hospice.  Their compassionate care for Howard during his final days will be forever remembered.
