She graduated from Kibler High School in 1933 and she married Carl Hickey in 1934.  Over the years she lived in Atlanta, GA, Cedar Rapids, IA, and retired in Eureka Springs, AR before finally moving back to Cedar Rapids as her health faded.  Velma worked many years at both Rich’s Department store (later Macy’s), Atlanta and the Armstrong Department Store, Cedar Rapids.  She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, Belles and Bows Square Dance Club, Order of the Eastern Star, and faithful member of Westside Church of Christ, Eureka Springs.  Later, she worshiped at Calvary Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, IA.

She is survived by her children Wayne Hickey and Peg Moore; grandchildren Duane (Lynn) Moore, Melody (Bill) Lang, Christopher (Judy) Hickey; great-grandchildren Colby (Cathleen) Lang, Luke Moore, Emily Lang; step-great-grandchildren Joe and Jamy Rippe; and one great-great-granddaughter, Avalyn Lang.

She was preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents; her husband Carl; brother, Earl; and son-in-law David Moore.

Velma was a caring and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who live will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to know her.  A more gentle and kind soul has never walked this Earth.  God has claimed you now.  Goodspeed.
