Joseph John Recker, 80, of Marion, died Wednesday July 27, 2016 in The Promise House in Hiawatha.  Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m.  Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Marion, where a visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. The Rev. David O’Connor will officiate. Graveside service: 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prairieburg, Iowa.  Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Surviving Joseph is his wife of 61 years,  Barbara (Machart) Reckerhis children; Deb (Randy) Byers of Anamosa, Iowa, Denise (Gerry) Weimer of Marshalltown, Iowa and Alan (Julie) Recker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, his siblings; Donald (MaryJeanne) Recker of Springville, Iowa, Jean Muller of Highland Village, Texas, Judy (Lester) Kehoe of Monticello, Iowa and Richard (Barb)  Recker of Manchester, Iowa, his grandchildren; Adam Byers, Cassie Caldwell, Heather Blais, Shawna Weimer, Adam Conway, Brianna Steitzer, Cassie Steitzer and 8 great grandchildren.

His parents, Alois and Ethel Recker and twin brother, James Recker preceded him in death. 

Joseph was born December 3, 1935 in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Alois and Ethel (Besler) Recker and graduated from St. Patrick’s High school in Ryan.  He married Barbara A. Machart on April 26, 1955 in Prairieburg, Iowa. Joseph worked for the Men’s Reformatory in Anamosa for 12 years, Rockwell Collins, and retiring from Aegon in 2002.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at Jones Regional Medical Center. Joseph was a man of strong faith-practicing and living it daily. His family and friends were an important part of his life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
