Francis A Luzum ,  age 83, died Thursday January 14, 2016 from complications of heart failure.  Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.  Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Lu Anne Moody(Robert)of Cedar Rapids, and Deb Schell(Kevin)of Ankeny, three sons, Francis Jr. (fiancée, Cathy) of Cedar Rapids, Ronald Luzum (Cathy) of Cedar Rapids and Chad Luzum (Rebecca) of Cedar Rapids. Francis is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Florence Hackman of Decorah, IA, Vic Luzum of Decorah, IA, Joan (George) McCusker of Overland Park, KS, Monica (Tony) Steinlage of Decorah, IA, Bill (Jan) Luzum of Benson, MN, James (Arlene) Luzum of Rosemont, MN; three sisters-in-law: JoAnn Luzum, Calmar, IA, and Geraldine Hays, Cedar Rapids, IA., Irma Luzum, St Lucas, Iowa.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kara L Sizemore, his parents William and Leona (Schissel) Luzum; father and mother-in-law Bryon R Sizemore and Wilma F Silvernail Sizemore;  brothers: Clarence, Paul, Arnold and Leo (Darlene) Luzum; two sisters: Loretta Collins and Rita Humpal; two sisters-in-law: Esther Luzum, Dorothy Luzum, Denver, CO; three brothers-in-law: Herman Steinlage, Rudy Humpal and Othmar Hackman; one grandchild: Blaine Luzum.

Francis Arthur Luzum was born August 31, 1932 on his parents’ family farm west of Calmar, IA. Francis was baptized, received First Holy Communion and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA. He married Kara L. Sizemore on December 29, 1956 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Sacramento, CA. He enlisted in the Air Force 1954-1958 where he was an airborne radio operator, stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA. He earned the Good Conduct Metal. After his service, he farmed for 10 years where he carried a rural route in Calmar, IA. In 1968, he and his family moved to Cedar Rapids where he continued his postal service employment and then retired in 1991. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, hunting, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, taking his chances on the slot machines, and playing baseball in which he lettered in high school. 

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
