On November 10, 1917, Dorothy Mabel Reid was born in Center Point, Iowa to Myrtle and John Reid.  She was welcomed home by four brothers, Oval, Melvin, Ralph, and Howard, and three sisters Nellie, Mildred, and Hazel, later to be joined by one more sister, Garnett.  Dorothy attended Center Point Schools and on July 18th, 1935 married her best friend, John H. Lindsey.  This marriage lasted 70 years and was blessed with 3 children, Linda Solem, Loretta (Denny) Winders, and John, Jr. (Leanne) Lindsey.  Dorothy was employed by Russell Guides in Cedar Rapids and retired in 1980 to join John on road trips to Arizona and senior bowling on Fridays.  Family was her life and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy.  Cabin weekends brought joy and happiness to everyone.

Remaining behind to honor her memory are Loretta and Denny, John and Leanne, her grandchildren; Lisa (Dennis) Turkington, Dennis (Kari) Winders, Jr., Melisa (Dain) Bruscheen, Jason (Angela) Winders, Brian (Christi) Winders, Joseph (Ida) Solem, and Adam Winders; sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Welcoming her home were her parents, her husband John, her daughter Linda, daughter-in-law Kay, two still-born sons, her eight siblings, and many loved nieces and nephews.

No one ever left Dorothy’s home hungry.  She will be remembered for her warm heart and loving spirit.  The world was a better place with her here and we will miss her every day until we are together again.

The family would like to especially thank Mercy Hospice, Mercy Medical Center, and Northbrook Care Center for Dorothy’s care. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy in Dorothy’s name.
