Memorial

Kathryn A. (Mimi) Satterly, 104, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kathryn was born on September 22, 1912, in Cedar Rapids. She grew up in Fairfax. She attended and graduated from Washington High School. She continued her education at Coe College where she earned her teaching certificate. While at Coe she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. 

Following her education she married her high school sweetheart, Chester Satterly and to this union four children were born. The couple moved to Missouri where Chester was stationed and serving in the United States Army, following his discharge they returned to Cedar Rapids.

Kathryn began her career teaching at a Fairfax Country School. Later she and Chester purchased the family business, where they owned and operated the Linn Candy Company in Cedar Rapids. She remained with the business until her retirement in 1980. During this time she was also a member of the Women’s Quota Club.

Kathryn enjoyed traveling, spending time at their cabin in Lake Delhi, going for family drives but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her Family.

Those left to cherish Kathryn’s memory are her children, Clyde Satterly of Marion; Carole Lafferty of Center Point; Cathy (Roger) Walker of Marion; Cheryl (Kevin) Schatzle of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Todd (Sharon) Satterly, Julie (Randy) Peterson, Randy Walker, Chris (Joe) Heyer, Ben (Amy) Schatzle , Kelci (Adam) Smith, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Chester, one sister, Helen Sedlacek, son-in-law Ken Lafferty, and daughter-in-law Scarla Satterly.
