Mary Catherine (Cay) Hurt, 79, of Central City passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, on Monday, August 29, 2016, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30th, 2016, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City.

Burial will be at the Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Mary was born on May 26, 1937, to Lawrence and Elizabeth Monaghan Miller in Cedar Rapids. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and attended Catholic Schools in Cedar Rapids.

On July 7, 1957, she married Allen Hurt in Dubuque, Iowa and to this union four children were born.

Mary was an outstanding mother, wife and grandmother, making sure her family had laughter and love. She was a homemaker until her children were grown then later worked outside the home.

Mary enjoyed bird watching, gardening, cruising the town in her golf cart known as the “Chick Mobile” and taking care of her cat, Baby Girl. Most of all she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended many their special events.

She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Ladies Guild, Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing cards with her friends of the DC and Hand & Foot Card Clubs. She was a 56 year old active member of the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City.

Those to cherish Mary’s memory are her husband, Allen of 59 years, children, Pam (Mel) Campbell of Dysart, Gina (Ricky) Etten of Center Point, Kelly (Brett) Morrow of Central City, Patrick (Joan) Hurt of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Chris (Stacy) Campbell, Kayla (Dave) Sattgast, Eric (Catie) Campbell, Jason (Melissa) Etten, Angie Etten, Nick Etten, Amanda Morrow (Eric Osmundson), Lee Morrow; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Ann) Miller of St.Paul, Minnesota; and many friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Arlene Maloney and Joanne Williams, one brother, Jerry Miller, and a great-granddaughter, Chloe Catherine Campbell.

The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff at the Hospice House of Mercy, their care was above and beyond. They would also like to thank the staff at the Hall Perrine center, Mercy Hospital and Manor Care Rehabilitation Center, all of Cedar Rapids.
