Loras Edward Maloney 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday April 6th, 2016 at Meadowview in Cedar Rapids. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 on Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Sunday at St. Patrick's Catholic Parish Center. Rosary will be recited at 3 pm and visitation will be from 3:30 -7pm.  There will be a visitation one hour before the funeral.. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife Arlene Duggan Maloney, his children; Gene (Janet) Maloney of Marion, Diane (Kevin) Lorentz of Perham, MN, Pat (Don) Jennings of Gilman, Mark (Trisha) Maloney of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Robert) Wetherell of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Cathy) Maloney of Cedar Rapids, Teresa (Terry) Iiams of Cedar Rapids, Mike Maloney of Hiawatha, IA. Also surviving are his siblings; Marylou (Art) Van Cleve, Shirley (Jim) Kane, Louise (Ray) Larson, Kathy Maloney, and Tom (Dianne) Maloney of Cedar Rapids and brother in law Wayne Krumbholz of Cedar Rapids and sister in law Flo Maloney of Yuba City, CA.

Loras was blessed with 29 grandchildren; Tina (Sean)Healy, Brian (Chris) Maloney, Andy (Mary Beth)Maloney, Brad (Melissa)Lorentz, Katie (Eric) Dukart, Kelly (Luke)Fjerstad, Amy Lorentz, Ryan (Carrie) Jennings, Adam(Theresa) Jennings, Brett (Jenna) Jennings , Andy Jennings, Allison, Mark Jr., Anna and Jacob Maloney, Jill (Mark)Fisher, Aaron(Devon) Wetherell, Caleb and Emily Wetherell, Blair, Sara and Katie Maloney, Jenifer (John) Christopherson, Katie (Domingo)Vega, Megan and Joshua Iiams, Michael, Sam and Spencer Maloney, and 23 great grandchildren. 

Loras married Arlene Duggan in 2007, and is also survived by her children; Michael (Carol) Duggan, John (Mona) Duggan, Kathy (Dave) Bullock, Maureen (Donny) Murphy, Theresa (Rev. Michael) Lillios, Patty (Jerry) Winter, and Mary (Matt) Michenfelder, 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Arlene Miller Maloney who passed away in 1999, and his siblings Elwood (Bud) Maloney, and sister Norm Krumbholz. 

Loras was born August 7th, 1928 in Watkins, IA, the son of E.J. and Velma (Hasley) Maloney.  He attended St. Patricks and Roosevelt schools.  He graduated from Loras Academy in 1946 and then attended Loras College. On June 23rd, 1948 he married Arlene Miller, and together they had 8 children, 29 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.  

 Loras was in sales most if his life.  He worked for Modern Appliance, sold insurance for Prudential later becoming staff manager, he also worked 19 years at Wilson- Farmstead and was a realtor for 20 years in Cedar Rapids.  After Retirement he worked 14 years for Option Care (Care Pro) delivering medicine.

Loras was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where he served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, an usher and was a member of the Funeral Choir. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Catholic Laymen and Mended Hearts where he spent time visiting heart patients at both local hospitals.  

Loras was a very dedicated husband, Dad and Grandpa.  His faith was very important to him. Loras was very passionate towards Pro-Life. He was a man of great character, a true gentlemen, and a friend to all he met.
