Memorial

Leone McCauley Gray, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Cottage Grove Place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 3 to 5 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. 

Leone is remembered by her children; Karen Pfeiler, Kirk (Cathy), Patricia (Greg) Freeman; nine grandchildren and nineteen great- grandchildren. 

Leone was born on July 25, 1919 in West Union, Iowa to Ray and Florence McCauley. She married Wilber (Scotty) Gray on March 30, 1940 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage with many “discussions” along the way. 

Leone graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo and spent 14 years of her career at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Leone was a charter member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Waterloo and an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed an active life of traveling, dancing, quilting and spending time with her family. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. 

Leone was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Edwin, son-in-law Donald Pfeiler and her special friend and companion Dave Hodgin. 

Leone’s family would like to thank the Cottage Grove staff, caretakers and hospice for their wonderful care, concern and attentiveness. She was richly blessed. 

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
