Memorial

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant LaVonne.

LaVonne Doris (Jordahl) Johnson was given life by her creator and was born on June 30, 1932, the child of Arthur and Palma (Mortenson) Jordahl. On July 31, 1932, she received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God at Manchester Evangelical Lutheran Church, Minnesota. On October 20, 1946 she publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed at Manchester, Minnesota. She received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. On August 15, 1954 she received the gift of a beloved companion of 61 years in her spouse, Daniel Quill Johnson, at Our Savior’s Lutheran, Albert Lea, Minnesota, officiated by his Uncle, the Rev. Grant C.J. Quill. She was blessed with the gift of 3 children, Lee Daniel (Nancy), Kristine Rebecca (Daniel), David Jonathan (Kim), 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

God blessed LaVonne’s life with many special people as she served God in her vocations at home, church, work, and the community. She served faithfully as a parochial school teacher, choir director, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, director of the Sioux City Sunrise Service mass choir (200 voices), and many other church positions. LaVonne also worked as a Jafra consultant (cosmetics) for several years and at HyVee for 30 years at multiple locations. Finally, on November 18, 2015 God blessed LaVonne with a holy and peaceful death and took her home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.

LaVonne was the 9th of 10 children, and is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two sisters, Eunice and Dorothy (Bob), one brother, Donald (Phyllis), and a sister-in-law Darlene.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister LaVonne.
