Montgomery was born January 4, 1939, the middle child of George and Theodora (Daugs) Montgomery.  He was united in marriage to Martha Ann Wiskus on July 28, 1984, in Shueyville, Iowa.  He worked as a supervisor in the department of traffic engineering for the City of Cedar Rapids for forty years.

He was a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and Ducks Unlimited.  He lived most of his adult life in Cedar Rapids, where he retained many close friends.  Montgomery had a deep love for Cedar Rapids and was proud to be a resident.  He was a fisherman and a hunter of turkey and deer, as well as a golfer.  Montgomery will be remembered as an excellent cook.  He enjoyed canning, and he loved a rainy day.

Montgomery is survived by his wife, Martha; sons David (Gina) of Iowa City and Mike (Lori) of Cedar Rapids; daughters Ann (Mike) of Rochester, Minnesota and Sharon (Jim) of Alburnett; daughter-in-law Tracy of Chelsea; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Lola (Les) of Galena, Illinois; and brothers Al (Rita), Lee, and Lyle (Patty), all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mike, and infant daughter Karen Sue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Montgomery’s honor may be made to the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital or to Ducks Unlimited.
