Randy Dee Dunn, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away of natural causes on Monday, February 9, 2015 while resting peacefully at home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 13th 2015 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home followed by a reception from 12:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Lava Fusion in Cedar Rapids.

Randy was born on May 14, 1949, in Sheldon, IA the son of Paul and Colleen Dunn.  He was united in marriage to Marcia Kay Christensen on August 25, 1972 in Cedar Rapids and together they had two children, Brian and Brandi.  His family resided in Colorado and then Texas where many of them still reside.  As a boy Randy spent a lot of time with Grandparents on their farm in Hartley, Iowa.  When he told stories of his childhood in Hartley he did so with a gleam in his eye and a great enthusiasm for his memories.  Even 50+ years later it was truly a special place for him.

He deeply enjoyed the outdoors and as a younger man was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.  At the age of 17, and during a time of war, Randy joined the Navy and served his country proudly.  For most of his working life and before retiring at age 49 Randy was a Millwright and over that time acquired an impressive collection of tools and the knowledge to use them, and probably drank a beer or two in the process.  He was a self-professed "piddler" and didn't need much of a reason to go outside and wander around his yard.  He took great pride in building, crafting, and cultivating a beautiful yard for everyone to enjoy.  In the years preceding his death Randy took his wandering on the road and spent time in Texas, Colorado and then settled for his final days in Iowa.  He planned to return to Texas to be closer to his son and grandchildren and to enjoy a warmer climate.  Instead he joins those who have gone before him; we suspect the weather there is pretty nice too.

Surviving him is his son, Brian (Debra) Dunn, of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers Ronnie (Boomer) and Reggie Dunn of Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren Elizabeth, Brittany, and Cory.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Colleen; sister Ronna Cooper; and daughter Brandi Harasmisz.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your local VA. Randy spent much of his time volunteering to help those who served our country and he would get a lot of joy if others did the same in his honor.

Condolences may be sent to the family at 3434 Condalia Ct, San Antonio, TX 78258.
