Joseph E. Best, 100, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8 from 1 to 3 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family graveside services at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joseph Edward Best was born on January 6, 1915 to William and Bessie Heither Best in Canton, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Marie Best on September 2, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa. They shared 50 wonderful years together. He worked at Rapids Chevrolet as a Service Manager for over 20 years. Joseph was a lifelong active member of the Elks Lodge. Joseph was very active up until he was 90 years old, which included being a part of 4 bowling leagues. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing pool. He formed the Rat Pack pool league at Keystone Place. Joseph especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He always had a kind word for everyone, positive attitude, and lived life to the fullest.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Rita) Best of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tammi (Bill) Heaton of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Best of Gilbert, AZ; great grandchildren, Brooke and Cody Heaton; special sister-in-law, Joyce Best of Greenville, SC; and special niece Jeanne (John) Dunlop of Mesa, AZ; and loving nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie; a sister, Louise Staskal and 2 brothers, Wilton and William.
