Darlene (Dolly) Hurt age 77 died Wednesday October 1, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. 

Funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday October 4, 2014 at the Believers in Grace Church in Marion. Rev. Bill Randles will officiate at the service. Visitation will be Friday October 3, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm at the church. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. 

Surviving are her husband Howard (Ed); children Mitchell (Sandy) Hurt of Central City, Mark (Jill) Hurt of Marion, Lora (Phil) Nielsen of Central City and Linda (Bruce) Carr of Floyd, IA; 11 grandchildren Athena, Shelby, Derek, Autumn, Dylan, Mason, Meghan, Justin, Hannah, Josiah and Brodie; 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother Larry (Peggy) Thompson of Los Angeles; and many nieces and nephews; She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Molly Driscoll and a brother Jim Thompson.

Dolly was born October 25, 1936 in Robins, Iowa. She was the daughter of Verl and Mary Morrison Thompson. She married Howard (Ed) Hurt on June 12, 1955 in Marion, Iowa. The couple lived in Ft. Benning, Georgia while Ed was in the Army and then moved back to Marion. In 1964 the couple bought a farm in Central City then in 1976 built a house in Center Point. Dolly worked at the Wilson’s Meat Packaging, Alburnett Locker, Jet Drive Inn, Rockwood’s General Store (Bucky’s) then Rockwell Collins until she retired in December of 1991. 

She enjoyed Painting and drawing, ceramics, gardening, sewing, cooking, fishing and had a tremendous love for music and dancing. But the thing she treasured most was the time she was given to spend with her family and loved ones. Dolly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
