In the 80's and 90's I owned a consignment store called White Elephant Shop!!! Millie came in my store all the time!!! She had more spirit and spunk than any older person I knew!!! I always said Millie I hope when I get your age i hope I have all that energy!! She was a wonderful lady!!! We should all be so lucky to get 99 years and I'm sure most of Millie's were good ones!! So very sorry for your loss. Ginger Hull

Dear Rick and Family - I was saddened to read of your mom's passing. 99 years old. Wow! What a blessing. She was such a great lady. She always made me feel welcome and it was obvious that she loved you very much.
Please accept my sincere sympathy on your great loss.

Dear Family....I was one of the "HyVee Breakfast" group that met every morning at the Mt. Vernon Rd. store.
I have fond memories of stories and little trips that we took together. Millie lived her life to the fullest
and I know "family" was so important to her. God Bless!!! Sue Eppel

Miller,
Mildred could not have had a more dedicated and caring granddaughter. My deepest sympathy on the death of your grandmother. How amazing the changes Mildred witnessed in her long life, and the memories you will always cherish. Much love and I am always here for you!!

I knew Millie for 15 years before I actually met her. Her stories and quirky sayings were a part of my vocabulary since I came to know Rick Smith. He considered Mille a MOST important part of his own family. I met Millie about 7 years ago on a visit to Cedar Rapids before I moved here. She was as delightful in person as I had imagined her to be. I very much enjoyed any visit we had at her home, and our Saturday morning "coffee and maple bar" get togethers will be a treasured memory. She enjoyed a long life, with many rich memories of her time spent as "Millie Triska, Super Sampler" at HyVees, and as a bartender/Hostess downtown at the Roosevelt. She was a wealth of information on Cedar Rapids history, and even had stories of knowing Grant Wood and his wife during their short marriage, when Grant Wood was at Turners in Turner Alley. I wish her well on her continued spiritual journey, and I thank her for the fun and laughter she brought to my life for so many years.

Having grown up across the Triska's from the mid 1960's, I was one of the neighborhood kids. Millie Triska always made me feel warm and welcome in their home at a time when my own home was turbulent at times. I believe it was her charge to have food in my mouth within 5 minutes of entering or she thought she had failed. After I moved to California and came back on trips home, she always insisted on cooking my favorites of her extensive recipes and once had a Czech poppyseed coffeecake overnight mailed to me she had made. I always looked forward to seeing her on my return trips and catching up on the news and hearing her hysterical stories of the past. Millie had an incredible memory of people and events in Cedar Rapids and loved to recall them. Her family was SO fortunate to have had her for 99 years and also to have her so clear of mind right to the finish. I will miss our Saturday morning coffee klatches and I will never forget her. God you kids......
