Virginia M. Rowell, age 91, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center after failing in health for some time.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Valley View Baptist Church.  Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church.  Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Virginia’s name may be directed to Camp Courageous or Hospice at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center.

Virginia Margaret Rowell was born September 6, 1922 in rural Jones County to John and Tena (Hults) Wroblewski.  She married Donald McVay in 1939, and was later married to Thomas Rowell in 1963.  Virginia worked most of her life as a private duty caregiver.

She was a member of Valley View Baptist Church.  She enjoyed dancing and gardening, especially geraniums.  She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and baking; she will be remembered especially for her pies, jellies, and jams.  Virginia enjoyed traveling and collecting seashells, which she used in many crafts and decorating.  She loved spending time with her family.

Virginia is survived by four children: Nancy McCray of Cedar Rapids; Larry McVay (Linda) of Cedar Rapids; Douglas McVay (Mimi) of West Palm Beach, Florida; and Kathleen Bass-Harder (John) of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren: Shannon Ford, Tiffany McElmeel (Tom), Chris Bass (Brenna), Josh Bass (Jessica), McKenzie Ramirez, Megan McVay, Jason McVay (Andrea), Sarah McVay, and Aimee Vernon; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brother LaVern Wroblewski of Bradenton, Florida.

She was preceded in death by two husbands; daughter Virginia McVay in 1954; son Danny Rowell in 1981; brother John Wroblewski; and her beloved dog, Cricket.
