Gertrude A. Weaver, 97, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday May 1, 2014 at the Winslow House Care Center in Marion after a brief illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friend may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 6 PM on Monday.
Survivor include her son Ken of Cedar Rapids and a nephew Dr. Richard (Kathy) Handy of Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Gertrude was born on August 22, 1916 in Carroll the daughter of Louis and Louisa Shoemaker. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1938. Gertrude graduated from Coe College with a degree in music and while in school she became a concert pianist. She also taught music at Johnson School for 8 years.
Gertrude married Kenneth B. Weaver on June 28, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. Kenneth passed away in 1998. She was a homemaker and an 80 year member of the P.E.O.
Gertrude’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
