It's sad.

It's sad.

What a shock it was to hear the horrible news on that Monday the 10th of March! Connie and all eight of the kids the longer we live the more we learn...yet all our experience doesn't seem to help when it comes to the loss of someone we love and spent most of our life caring about...at this difficult time I pray you turn to the memories of all you shared to carry you during your darkest hours. He is in the heavens above sending hugs and kisses down to each of you and all three of those beautiful grandkids and the new ones in the cooker yet. God did he love kids!!! XOXO! Look for miracles and you shall find all around you, God is good! Love Darlene Shreeves ( SIS ) and Robert Foster p.s. it's too bad this picture is blurred..he takes better.

Connie, i was saddened to read you have lost your husband.. i wish you peace in your trying times,, and heartfelt sympathy to you and your family... What the Caterpillar called the end of the world... the Master calls a Butterfly**... Much love to you, Margo

To Nate, Brad, and Dallas: I want to extend my condolence to you guys and the rest of your family. I enjoyed the times when I stopped by the shop to visit with your Dad. I would ask his opinion on a lot of things and he would give me one. You guys are great and have always been true gentlemen. I know you got that from your Father. I am glad I got to know him. You are in my prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Chandler family. Merv was a great guy always ready with a friendly comment. I enjoyed stopping by the shop in Norway and chatting with him and the boys. Dennis Knock

Connie & Kids - I was truly shocked when I read about Merv in the paper. I have lots of memories of the racing team coming into Sam's Pizza at 11:05 after the races to have some pizza and pop. I am so sorry for your loss. It is one of the hardest things you will ever do - to lose your husband - to lose your Dad - to lose your friend. Just remember there is a light at the end of that long tunnel and you will get to that day when it doesn't hurt quite so bad. Trust me, I know. Hang in there!

Damn, So so sorry to hear of Merv's untimely passing. He was a lot of fun to watch on the track, as well as to talk to off the track. He left a big void in the racing community that probably won't ever be filled. We extend our deepest sympathies to all his family & friends. Peace

We are sorry for the lost of Merv. He was a great guy and great father that anyone could ask for in life. Plus he was a great racer at Hawkeye Downs seeing him races with the boys was great. Merv Chandler it's hard to believe that you are no longer with us but you will never be forgotten. Just remember guys all the good memories that you have with your dad...

I was lucky to meet Merv when we were young. His mother and my step mother worked together in Marengo at G. W. Knipple Studio. Merv would come in to work with his mom and we would play at the shop together. He would talk to his mom in sign and I always wanted him to teach me how to sign. I also new Merv in school. He would always give good advise and help you as much as he could. My husband and I have been at the race tracks with Merv and watched him always helping others. Always a positive person. I was very shocked to see he has passed. He will be missed by many. Say hello to you mom and dad for me in heavan. Prayers to the family.

Although I never had the pleasure of seeing Merv after the school years I did go to school with him, I was 3 years younger but I have fond memories of him, he was smart, made the honor roll participated in wrestling, football, FHA and excelled in all of them. We lived a street away from each other and we were always at the nearby swimming pool during the Summer having a great time with friends. My condolences to the Family for their loss, he will be greatly missed.

We are so sorry for the Chandler Family . Our thoughts and prayers are with you all . George and Roseann Mattison

Kia please feel your Dads love when you have those self coaching sessions. I once heard, "people come an go but principles last forever". Even without ever meeting your father I'm comfortable sharing my respect to you and your family because of how you live your life. He did well young lady, I can tell he left you with some principles that work, maybe you can introduce me to him in heaven someday.

Very special man. The best racecar driver. My father and I had the privilege of racing with him. He was always nice to everyoneand always had a smile on his face. He always told me, it doesnt matter if you are slow on the track if you love doing it. Prayers to the family.

Thoughts and prayers to all of you from my family!

When we first got AJ into racing everyone we talked to told us, "watch out for those Chandlers" but besides the fact that everyone of you could drive the wheels off of a car, we are not sure what they meant. Merv bent over backwards to be a mentor to AJ and to us. He never lost his patience with AJ even when AJ made dumb mistakes that Merv always seemed to be on the receiving end of. He gave him encouragement and advice. He told when he did things wrong and when he was doing things right. He walked the track with him to show him what to watch out for. He showed us ways to make the car run better. He gave us advice on what tires to run and what tire pressure to run at. He many times got under the car to help fix it in order to get AJ back out on the track. There were a few times we had to yell at him to get in his car because they were lining up but he was trying so hard to get help us get AJ's car back out on the track. We will never forget the night of AJ's first heat win. He walked up to us with that smile on his face and said "that's what he needed." He was not only a great racer, he wanted others to be great racers too. He didn't just want an easy win, he wanted others out there racing against him. We will never forget the kindness he showed to us. AJ will always remember his first years of racing as having the Great Merv Chandler as his mentor. We are so sorry for your loss. We hope it helps to know that he touched many lives while he was here and he will be remembered.

We are sorry about your loss

Dear Connie n kids, I don't even know where to began. You (we) have all lost a wonderful man!!! I've know Connie n Merv now for almost 34 years and they were such a wonderful couple with so many BEAUTIFUL children n grandchildren. Merv was a wonderful father to his children and a perfect match for his mate Connie. So many years and memories together. Memories that will be cherished forever. I pray that our Lord and Savior get you all through this time of grieving and get you all on the road to healing soon. I know Merv wouldn't want anyone sitting around crying. So let's all put on our happy faces and make him smile down upon us!!! I love each and everyone of you Chandler children and most of all my dearest friend of 34 years Connie. I'll be here for you when you need me Connie, I'm just a phone call away!!! May you rest in peace Merv Chandler!!!! Love you all, Tracy Murphy

Wow. Sorry I won't be able to attend the visitation as I have to sell so racin' stuff for Simmons. I would have truly liked to have been there to share with you boys alot of the öld" stories form back in the day!! Every time we were at the track at the same time Merv would come over and give me some s--t about being an old SOB and couldn't believe I was still doing it. I always told to look in the mirror. Thanks for letting your Dad be a part of my life!! Rest in Peace til I get there Merv and then I'm gonna put a donut on the old number 2. Kastli 73

I met Merv over 30 years ago when he was doing as much as he could to get exposure for the new IMCA Modified. Merv would race in Texas one weekend and North Dakota the next. Merv always got the most out of his cars, most of the time he was way underfunded compared to his fellow competitors, but when the checkered flag fell, many times it was the #2 collecting the trophy. Merv will be greatly missed by his immediate family and his racing family. Now it is up to the kids to carry on the Chandler name around the race tracks. RIP and Gods Speed to you "Swervin Mervin" Jerry Mackey

Hero's are remembered legends never die, and that he was, I'd like to thank him for giving me my first break and chance to drive my first car at Hawkeye downs with his knowledge and the people he knew, no doubt in my mind he would of made that automatic grand am se 2002 work as he did. I miss going and watching you boys race from dirt to asphalt learning while watching, but the most honorable memory is working and helping out down at the old shop, weather it was tearing apart radiators or spraying the walls after the flood of 2008 the memory that stays with me is just as simple as this, "the vibe." Tho some didn't have patients with me..... Merv defiantly gambled upon me as a young and hungry driver and gave me a gift and a dream of a life time, that only few dream or wish of doing.
