John “Jack” Dwyer, 99, of Cedar Rapids went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Emeritus at Silver Pines Assisted Living.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8 from 4 to 7 PM, with a vigil service beginning at 4 PM, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. John R. Flaherty presiding.  Burial will be held at St. John’s Cemetery with military honors. 

John Francis Dwyer was born on November 02, 1914 to Dennis and Lucy Woods Dwyer in Cedar Rapids.  Jack proudly served in the US Navy during WWII.  He was united in marriage to Anna “Ann” Blazek on April 2, 1935 in Cedar Rapids.  Jack worked at Penick and Ford for 37 years doing electrical work. Jack was a long time member of All Saints Catholic Church and Young at Heart. He will be remembered for his words of wisdom: “Don’t give up. God is always with us.”

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 79 years, Ann; children, Corrine Ehlers of Lincoln, CA; Gary (Relda) Dwyer and Tom Dwyer (special friend Debbie) both of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family members.

The family would like to thank all the residents and staff from the Emeritus at Silver Pines Assisted Living for their love and support as well as the Hospice of Mercy staff for the tender care given to Jack.
