Irene Kroupa Whiting, 89, of Cedar Rapids died November 21, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jerry Springston of The Church on Northland- First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Paulette Randall and son-in-law Michael Randall of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law Natalie Kroupa; nephew Kent (Linda) Kroupa; and great nephews, Bradley and Craig Kroupa all of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Whiting in 1993, Parents Joseph and Mary Kroupa, and a sister Evelyn Epperson and brother Marvin Kroupa.
Irene was born July 12, 1924 to Joseph and Mary Kroupa in Cedar Rapids. On December 12, 1943 she married Paul Whiting.
Irene graduated from Roosevelt High School in June 1942. Upon graduation she worked at Quaker Oats until her marriage. After living in Seattle, Washington they returned to Cedar Rapids. She then worked at Killian’s and then Patterson Dental for 27 years. While attending Calvary Baptist Church she served as a Deaconess, Church Clerk, and Sunday School Jr. Superintendent. She later transferred her membership to First Baptist Church- Church of the Breathern. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Center, having over 1000 hours.
Both she and her husband attended all Iowa Football events, and were also very faithful fans of the Chicago Cubs.
Irene was a loving and caring person.
